Castle Danijel in KonakBaron Danijel Ladislav built the castle in 1898, and it’s located near the river Brzava at the exit towards Vrsac. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park with rare exotic trees.
The castle represents an impressive example of a simple, longitudinal classicist building intended for the aristocratic family’s luxurious housing with its architecture and concept.
The estate of Count Laszlo Daniel in Konak stretched over 2,758 acres, had a large stable of horses with 150 purebred heads of good reputation, and was also known for a herd of about 1,000 Podolian cattle.
Under the roof of the count’s castle, there was first an orphanage for neglected children. Since 1959, a school has been located there. At the beginning of the seventies, the castle also housed the Teaching Center for Pre-Command Training of the Municipal Assembly of Secanj.
Conservation work on the castle was done in 1984 and 1988. Elementary school “Vuk Karadzic” attends 50 students today, having everything they need under one roof of the old building.
The building is a cultural monument of great importance, and the park is under protection as a natural asset of the great importance of the second category.
