Located in the district of Novi Becej, the castle Sokolac is built on a farm with an area of ​​4000 acres, near the river Tisa. It was part of the Veliki Salas estate, whose last owner was Emilija Ivanovic, daughter of Lazar Dundjerski.

The castle building was built at the end of the 19th century as a residential building. In 2001 it was declared a cultural monument.

The castle is built in the style of classicism. A high basement is vaulted with Prussian arches below the building, and the mezzanine structure above the ground floor is wooden. In the basement, there was a bowling alley, which is a rarity in this area.

From the former luxurious interior, some stylish furniture is left, dirty stoves in the rooms, and decorations in the form of wallpaper and stucco plastic on the walls and ceiling of the main salon. There is also a room of Lenka Dundjerski in the castle with her portrait painted by Uros Predic.

According to the legend, the castle’s owner Lazar Dundjerski one day lost his entire estate by gambling, including the court. His opponent offered him to regain the property if he hit an apple from a pistol. And the apple was on his wife’s head. Fortunately, his hand didn’t tremble, and he hit the apple. Of course, he got back both the estate and the castle.
